Oak Hills
The City of Oak Hill is the southern most city in Southeast Volusia County. A small fishing community established in 1908, it is approximately 10.5 square miles in size and has approximately 1500 residents. It’s beauty and charm is enhanced by the waterfront homes, rustic fishing camps and abundance of live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Adjacent to the Mosquito Lagoon it maintains a strong relationship to the natural environment where wildlife abounds and the fishing is the best in the world.
The town is rich in history, bird life, and subtropical flora. Citrus groves were planted as early as the 1860's, and the commercial fishing began about 1908. Today, the National Seashore Canaveral Park has extended a branch of its headquarters to the historic site locally known as “Seminole Rest”. This area includes two turn of the century houses, under reconstruction, and several Timucuan Mounds that are evidence of past generations of people that lived there. The Canaveral National Seashore Park covers 57,000 acres and is the longest stretch (24 miles) of undeveloped beach on Florida's east coast. Oak Hill is proud to be an important part of the National Park.
The City Library is part of the County Regional system, and there is one elementary school (K-5). There is an active Boys & Girls club and Recreation program, in addition to local Churches and civic organizations. There are four community parks, a bird look-out over the wetlands, many fishing camps and a fishing pier. The City of Oak Hill is rich in natural beauty and opportunities.
