Edgewater

Imagine a community nestled alongside the Indian River, with all the comforts of home, and that special charm of a small Florida town. This is Edgewater, located just south of New Smyrna Beach, and at the north end of the renowned Mosquito Lagoon. The Lagoon serves as a diverse ecosystem that is home to 300 species of birds, 680 species of fish, dolphins, and the famous manatee.

Edgewater encompasses 21 square miles with just over 18,600 residents. Edgewater’s quiet small town charm has earned it the name of “The Hospitality City”.

It has a strong commercial core to service the needs of its citizens with goods and services. The city has a growing industrial segment that includes companies like Boston Whaler and Edgewater Power Boats and Everglades Boats, in addition to a variety of companies that manufacture everything from kit aircraft to recreational equipment.

Steeped in history that dates back to the early 1800s, Edgewater was founded by Dr. John Milton Hawks. Hawks Park, as the area was originally called, was renamed Edgewater in 1924.
